Hi, I'm Lauren, the founder and Chief Curation Officer at Atelier Lithic.
Atelier Lithic (ah-TEL-ee-yay / LITH-ik) was born from a lifelong relationship with the beauty of the earth. My fascination with minerals began early. As a child, I won my third-grade science fair with a project on the growth patterns of crystals. I always had a curiosity about how the earth could create something so precise, complex, and beautiful. That curiosity never left me, even when I learned to keep it quiet.
For more than twenty-five years, I built a successful corporate career by refining, editing, and compartmentalizing parts of myself that didn’t fit a conventional definition of professionalism. My love of minerals, form, and natural beauty lived in the background. The achievement was real, but so was the cost. Over time, disconnecting from what mattered most to me began to erode my sense of self, and that had real consequences for me.
Atelier Lithic exists because returning to authenticity was not optional. It was a necessity.
This stone studio is a curated expression of deep respect for the materials the earth creates and the hands that shape them. We source and present minerals with care, knowledge, and an emphasis on origin, formation, and natural variation. Each piece is chosen by hand. We don't buy in bulk. We shy away from mass production.
Atelier Lithic is also intentionally collaborative. Alongside minerals, we bring together ceramicists and artists whose work is shaped by the same scientific forces of heat, pressure, time, and transformation.
By building a community of artists and collectors, Atelier Lithic creates a space where appreciation is informed, curiosity is welcomed, and beauty is understood as something both ancient and alive. These are objects for the home, but also for reflection. Reminders that the earth is generous, complex, and worth caring for.
At its core, Atelier Lithic is an invitation to bring pieces of the earth into your space as daily reminders that beauty exists. To collect objects that tell stories. To value what is formed slowly. And to allow passion, knowledge, and authenticity to take up space without apology.
Our Craft
Atelier Lithic is a Canadian curatorial stone studio and collaborative platform. Our work brings together minerals, ceramics, and functional or sculptural objects through a shared respect for earth-based materials and disciplined craft.
Minerals are hand selected selected individually, with attention to uniqueness, rarity and beauty. Natural variation, inclusions, and marks from extraction are documented and preserved as part of each piece’s physical record.
Alongside stone, we work with ceramicists and artists whose practices are rooted in clay, stone or crystal formations. These materials share a common origin and are shaped through processes that demand patience, precision, and acceptance of natural unpredictability. Artists are chosen for the originality of their vision, the confidence of their craft, and the integrity of their work.
The result is a complete collection defined by coherence and beauty. Objects that stand independently, yet speak the same material language.
Our Collections
We curate a focused selection of objects to suit a range of aesthetics:
- Statement Pieces - Bold, sculptural forms designed to anchor a space and command attention.
- Raw and Natural - Organic forms that celebrate stone in its most elemental state.
- Polished - Refined pieces with luminous finishes, polished to highlight form and material.
- Curated Objects - Stone objects designed for display and use, including crystal bowls, mineral stands, and stone wall pieces. Each is selected for its relationship to material, form, and function.
- Ceramics - Ceramic art by local artists working in clay and mineral glazes.
Personal Curation
In addition to our collections, we offer private sourcing and bespoke creation for clients seeking something specific. This may include sourcing a particular stone, working at a desired scale, identifying a statement piece, or commissioning special forms. The process is discreet, collaborative, and informed by material knowledge and spatial context.
