Description
A bold, sculptural "Cookies and Cream" calcite cluster from Fujian, China, mounted on a custom stand. Plump, rounded calcite crystals puff outward in every direction, each "cookie" a chunky oval in soft cream and buff tones. Fine dustings of dark mineral speckle the faces and gather along the edges, tracing every puffed outline and growth layer like penwork, the exact look of cookies-and-cream ice cream, scooped in stone. The crystals radiate off a druzy quartz base, and at nearly eight inches across, the piece has serious presence.
Fujian Province has become famous among collectors for its remarkable calcites. Each crystal records pauses and resumptions in growth, visible in the layered, terraced faces, while the dark speckling is a fine coating of later mineralization that settled on the finished crystals, highlighting their structure.
