Description
A pale, mango sorbet coloured calcite matrix studded with dozens of small radial creedite clusters, soft white to faintly lavender sprays scattered across the surface, and, distinctively, bright yellow druzy patches of carlhintzeite breaking through in several spots. The yellow colour is the giveaway for this rare species: unlike the colourless carlhintzeite known from its original German locality, Qinglong material owes its striking yellow tone to microscopic carnotite inclusions within the crystal structure. The combination of textures, sugary matrix, radiating white sprays, and saturated yellow patches, gives the piece real visual variety.
This specimen comes from the Qinglong Mine (Dachang Mine), Qinglong County, Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou, China, already the world's premier locality for fine creedite, and now notable for something else entirely: carlhintzeite was only confirmed here in 2025, identified through Raman spectroscopy and comparison with the original type material from Hagendorf, Germany. A specimen showing all three species together is a genuine piece of current mineralogical interest, as well as an aesthetic one.
