Description

A large, full-face flash labradorite freeform with extraordinary colour coverage. Rivers of gold and green sweep across the polished face, outlined by electric blue that pools and crackles along the dark seams like lightning frozen in stone. Broad zones of silvery flash shimmer between the brighter bands, and rainbow arcs of orange and violet appear at certain angles. The whole face lights up as it moves — this is the kind of piece where the photos undersell it, because the labradorescence rolls and shifts with every tilt. At 2.4 kg, it's a substantial statement piece that stands on its own.

Labradorite's famous glow comes from within: as the mineral cooled extremely slowly deep in the Earth's crust, it separated into microscopically thin internal layers. These layers are close to the wavelength of visible light, so light entering the stone scatters between them and returns as flashes of blue, gold, green, and silver — an effect so distinctive it's named labradorescence after the stone itself. Madagascar, the world's leading source, is especially known for large freeforms with this multi-colour flash.

Labradorite is called the stone of transformation and magic, associated with intuition, protection, and revealing the hidden beneath ordinary surfaces, a fitting reputation for a grey stone that erupts into colour the moment light finds it.

Note

All crystals and ceramic works offered by Atelier Lithic are inherently unique. Variations in size, colour, surface texture, and form are natural and should be expected.

Crystals are natural materials formed in the earth and may include surface irregularities such as natural fissures, internal veils, growth marks, contact points from where the crystal was attached to the host rock, or areas where the specimen was mined or extracted. These features are part of the crystal’s natural formation and are not considered defects. Defects are disclosed within the item description.

For crystals:

  • When a listing includes numbered options (for example, 001, 002, etc.), each number corresponds to a specific crystal shown in the photos. Selecting a number means you will receive that exact crystal.
  • When a crystal is shown as a group or range and sold as a quantity of one without numbered options, the images represent examples of what is available. You will receive one crystal, selected from the group, with natural variation.

For ceramics:

  • All ceramic pieces are one of a kind. Unless otherwise stated, you will receive the exact piece shown in the listing photos.
