This sphere pairs lepidolite's deep purple, finely micaceous texture with aquamarine's cool blue-green crystalline inclusions scattered through the matrix. The combination gives a striking two-tone effect, the purple lepidolite acting as a strong backdrop for the aquamarine's light, glassier accents.
Lepidolite and aquamarine occurring together like this are a hallmark of the lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Minas Gerais is one of the world's most prolific sources of both minerals, with districts like Governador Valadares and the Araçuaí pegmatite province particularly known for producing lepidolite-rich pockets alongside gem-quality aquamarine.
