Description
This specimen shows a dense, upright cluster of bladed pink barite crystals, growing in tight, near-parallel rows that fan slightly outward. The pale peachy-pink colouring deepening toward warmer rust tones at some of the crystal bases. The blades have a soft, pearly lustre with clean, well-defined striations running down each crystal face, giving the piece good texture and structure from every angle.
Spicer's Cove sits within the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark on Nova Scotia's Bay of Fundy coast, where dramatic cliff exposures reveal both volcanic rock of the Fountain Lake Group and sedimentary rock of the Cumberland Group, laid down roughly 300 to 350 million years ago during the Devonian and Carboniferous periods. It's a locality collectors value not just for its barite, but for the chance to see this striking transition between volcanic and sedimentary sequences exposed right along the shoreline; a real window into Nova Scotia's mid-Paleozoic geological history.
