A dramatic purple botryoidal fluorite from the Minggang Mine in Xinyang, Henan, China, the locality whose rare rounded fluorite stunned the collecting world when it was discovered. Deep violet, nearly black fluorite forms the sculpted body of the piece, its mounded surfaces overgrown with a sparkling frost of pale lavender druzy crystals. The two-tone effect is striking: dark glassy faces peer through the sugary coating, giving depth and glitter from every angle. Mounted on a custom acrylic stand, it displays as a finished object; part specimen, part sculpture.
Fluorite almost always crystallizes as cubes, which makes the rounded, botryoidal habit seen in Minggang material genuinely rare, few localities anywhere have produced it. This piece records two generations of growth: the primary deep purple fluorite formed first from fluorine-rich hydrothermal fluids, then a later pulse deposited the fine druzy crust across its surfaces. Trace elements and natural irradiation within the crystal lattice produce the intense violet colour.
Fluorite is called "the genius stone," associated with focus, mental clarity, and decision-making. Purple fluorite in particular is linked to intuition and spiritual insight, making it equally at home in a workspace or meditation area.
