Description
This specimen is anchored by a striking, well-formed scheelite crystal in rich honey-to-amber orange, showing sharp bipyramidal faces and excellent lustre, set prominently within a matrix of pale silvery-tan muscovite mica. Smaller muscovite rosettes cluster around the base and sides of the main crystal, their soft, bladed texture giving good contrast against the scheelite's glassy, faceted brilliance. The scheelite crystal is the clear focal point here; a substantial, well-terminated specimen sitting proud in the matrix.
This piece comes from the Pingwu Beryl Mine, on Mount Xuebaoding in Pingwu County, Sichuan, China. It's the same celebrated locality known for its aquamarine, muscovite, and scheelite combinations. Large, sharply terminated scheelite crystals of this quality and colour are prized among collectors, and this locality remains one of the finest sources for the mineral worldwide.
