Description

White lace agate obelisk tower from Chihuahua, Mexico; the only place on earth this famed lace agate forms. It has a striking geometric character with a bold lattice of intersecting blade-like channels, each traced in fine white banding, a crisscross architecture of triangles and angular windows rendered in white, silver, and pale grey. Sparkling druzy pockets open between the bands, catching light within the pattern. It reads like frost on a windowpane, or an abstract line drawing in stone: graphic, monochrome, and completely natural. The tall obelisk cut carries the pattern up every face to a clean pyramid point.

Mexican lace agate formed 65–90 million years ago as silica-rich water moved through cavities in volcanic rock. The angular framework here records earlier bladed crystals that once crossed the cavity; as chalcedony coated and replaced them layer by layer, their geometry was preserved in banded outline. The open druzy pockets are spaces where the process paused, leaving beds of tiny quartz crystals. It's a rare, more architectural expression of a stone famous for its lacework.

Known as the "laughter stone," lace agate is associated with joy, optimism, and steady, uplifting energy; pre-Hispanic peoples of Mexico wore it as an amulet for courage and endurance. The white variety is linked to the crown chakra, clarity, peace, and connection, a calming, sculptural presence for meditation and living spaces alike.

Note

All crystals and ceramic works offered by Atelier Lithic are inherently unique. Variations in size, colour, surface texture, and form are natural and should be expected.

Crystals are natural materials formed in the earth and may include surface irregularities such as natural fissures, internal veils, growth marks, contact points from where the crystal was attached to the host rock, or areas where the specimen was mined or extracted. These features are part of the crystal’s natural formation and are not considered defects. Defects are disclosed within the item description.

For crystals:

  • When a listing includes numbered options (for example, 001, 002, etc.), each number corresponds to a specific crystal shown in the photos. Selecting a number means you will receive that exact crystal.
  • When a crystal is shown as a group or range and sold as a quantity of one without numbered options, the images represent examples of what is available. You will receive one crystal, selected from the group, with natural variation.

For ceramics:

  • All ceramic pieces are one of a kind. Unless otherwise stated, you will receive the exact piece shown in the listing photos.
