This specimen shows bright yellow-green adamite crystals in small, sparkling druzy clusters, set against a rusty, deep orange-brown limonite matrix, with clear-to-white calcite adding further contrast among the crystal groupings. The vivid colour combination, acid-green adamite against warm iron-oxide limonite, is one of the most recognizable pairings in the mineral world.
The Ojuela Mine in Mapimí, Durango is one of the most storied mining localities in Mexico, worked continuously since the Spanish colonial era for silver, lead, and zinc, and connected to the town by a dramatic suspension bridge spanning the canyon below. It's globally regarded as the type locality and finest source for adamite, prized for producing this exact colour combination of bright green adamite on limonite, alongside a huge diversity of secondary oxidation minerals.
