Description
This striking multi-mineral specimen combines black and red quartz with contrasting layers of goethite, calcite, and scattered pyrite, creating a richly textured surface with strong visual depth. The interplay of dark, metallic tones and warm rust-red crystal growth gives the piece a dramatic, almost volcanic presence, while lighter calcite areas add balance. Elevated on a custom clear stand, it reads as a bold, sculptural statement.
Collected from Fujian Province, China, this type of material is prized for its complex mineral associations. Fujian specimens are known for their dense, layered growth and unusual colour combinations, formed where iron-rich fluids interacted with quartz and secondary minerals. Pieces of this scale and compositional variety are increasingly difficult to source.
Quartz is often associated with clarity and amplification, while goethite is linked to grounding and stability. Together, they are thought to balance intensity with focus, making this piece both visually commanding and conceptually grounded.
