Description

A sculptural black tip calcite cluster from the Leiping Mine in Hunan, China, mounted on a custom acrylic stand. Sharp, well-defined calcite crystals rise in a layered cluster, each one shading to a smoky black cap at its termination — a dramatic gradient from translucent body to dark point that gives the piece graphic, contemporary appeal. Leiping calcite is considered among the finest of the modern era, prized for its razor-sharp terminations, and with production at the mine now ended, these clusters are increasingly hard to source.

Calcite crystallizes from mineral-rich waters moving through limestone-hosted ore deposits, and the Leiping Mine produced crystals of exceptional sharpness and symmetry. The black tips record the final stage of growth: as conditions in the pocket changed, dark mineral inclusions were captured in the last layers of crystal, concentrating at the terminations. The result is the striking black-edged outline seen here; a finishing touch applied by nature after the crystals had fully formed.

Calcite is associated with cleansing, amplification, and emotional clarity, and is often chosen to refresh the energy of a space. The black-tipped form adds a grounding, protective quality.

You will receive the exact specimen and stand photographed.

Note

All crystals and ceramic works offered by Atelier Lithic are inherently unique. Variations in size, colour, surface texture, and form are natural and should be expected.

Crystals are natural materials formed in the earth and may include surface irregularities such as natural fissures, internal veils, growth marks, contact points from where the crystal was attached to the host rock, or areas where the specimen was mined or extracted. These features are part of the crystal’s natural formation and are not considered defects. Defects are disclosed within the item description.

For crystals:

  • When a listing includes numbered options (for example, 001, 002, etc.), each number corresponds to a specific crystal shown in the photos. Selecting a number means you will receive that exact crystal.
  • When a crystal is shown as a group or range and sold as a quantity of one without numbered options, the images represent examples of what is available. You will receive one crystal, selected from the group, with natural variation.

For ceramics:

  • All ceramic pieces are one of a kind. Unless otherwise stated, you will receive the exact piece shown in the listing photos.
