Description
A freshly surfaced cabinet specimen from Vein Prospect, a newly opened seam on the historic Rogers Mine property in Huntingdon Township. This is one of Canada's most storied fluorite localities that has been worked from 1909 until production ceased in 1951 and left untouched by commercial mining since.
Dense sprays of fine, bladed white barite radiate outward in overlapping fan-like clusters, their needle crystals catching the light in soft parallel rows across the specimen's crown. Rising from the matrix at the base, pale champagne-green fluorite sits in blocky, semi-transparent formation, its edges faintly frosted where the two minerals meet.
Rogers Mine fluorite has long been prized by Canadian collectors for its distinctive pale sea-green color and cubic habit on fine, tan-to-white barite matrix, the signature combination of the Madoc fluorspar district. This piece comes from a small new pocket recently accessed by independent, small-scale diggers working the old ground by hand; material from Vein Prospect has not previously circulated, and quantities are limited.
Fluorite is often associated with mental clarity and focus, while barite is linked to grounding and structure, a fitting pairing for a stone that has held its form more than a century after the last shaft closed.
