Description

A richly saturated grape agate with white calcite from Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi, Indonesia — the only place on earth this mineral is found. Tight clusters of deep purple botryoidal spheres shimmer with a fine druzy sparkle across their surfaces, while contrasting white calcite nestles among the "grapes" for a striking two-tone effect. Colour saturation is what separates ordinary grape agate from exceptional pieces, and the intense purple here places this specimen firmly in the latter category.

Grape agate is a botryoidal form of chalcedony, discovered near Mamuju in 2014 and only reaching collectors in 2016. It forms in cavities within ancient volcanic rock, where silica-rich fluids deposit layer upon layer around countless nucleation points, slowly building the rounded, grape-like spheres. Traces of iron and manganese produce the purple colour, and the sparkle comes from a natural coating of microscopic quartz crystals. Calcite crystallizing alongside, as seen here, is an uncommon pairing that adds to the piece's interest.

Grape agate is associated with intuition, dreams, and deep tranquility, connected to the crown and third-eye chakras and often chosen for meditation. White calcite adds a cleansing, calming energy. Together a natural fit for bedrooms and quiet spaces.

Note

All crystals and ceramic works offered by Atelier Lithic are inherently unique. Variations in size, colour, surface texture, and form are natural and should be expected.

Crystals are natural materials formed in the earth and may include surface irregularities such as natural fissures, internal veils, growth marks, contact points from where the crystal was attached to the host rock, or areas where the specimen was mined or extracted. These features are part of the crystal’s natural formation and are not considered defects. Defects are disclosed within the item description.

For crystals:

  • When a listing includes numbered options (for example, 001, 002, etc.), each number corresponds to a specific crystal shown in the photos. Selecting a number means you will receive that exact crystal.
  • When a crystal is shown as a group or range and sold as a quantity of one without numbered options, the images represent examples of what is available. You will receive one crystal, selected from the group, with natural variation.

For ceramics:

  • All ceramic pieces are one of a kind. Unless otherwise stated, you will receive the exact piece shown in the listing photos.
