Description

This dramatic mineral specimen features sweeping formations of green-blue feather calcite rising in layered, blade-like structures. The calcite displays a soft crystalline texture that catches the light across its ridged surfaces, creating a delicate shimmer. Emerging from the side of the formation are sharp quartz points with a smoky-to-amethyst hue, their faces dusted with metallic specularite that forms dark, reflective patches and sparkling mineral accents. The contrast between the pale calcite blades, the deep metallic specularite, and the translucent quartz points creates a striking and sculptural composition.

Specimens of feather calcite from Inner Mongolia are highly sought after for their unusual growth habit and mineral associations. The calcite forms in elongated, layered blades that resemble feathered plumes, often developing in hydrothermal environments alongside quartz. Specularite, a reflective variety of hematite, commonly coats the quartz crystals in this locality, creating the distinctive dark metallic surfaces seen here. The combination of feather calcite, quartz points, and specularite produces visually complex specimens prized by collectors for both their mineralogical interest and aesthetic balance.

Calcite is often associated with clarity and energy flow, while amethyst is traditionally connected with calmness and focus. Specularite, a form of hematite, is commonly linked with grounding and strength. Together these minerals create a piece that many people place in living spaces, offices, or meditation areas as both a natural sculpture and a focal point for calm, balanced environments.

Note

All crystals and ceramic works offered by Atelier Lithic are inherently unique. Variations in size, colour, surface texture, and form are natural and should be expected.

Crystals are natural materials formed in the earth and may include surface irregularities such as natural fissures, internal veils, growth marks, contact points from where the crystal was attached to the host rock, or areas where the specimen was mined or extracted. These features are part of the crystal’s natural formation and are not considered defects. Defects are disclosed within the item description.

For crystals:

  • When a listing includes numbered options (for example, 001, 002, etc.), each number corresponds to a specific crystal shown in the photos. Selecting a number means you will receive that exact crystal.
  • When a crystal is shown as a group or range and sold as a quantity of one without numbered options, the images represent examples of what is available. You will receive one crystal, selected from the group, with natural variation.

For ceramics:

  • All ceramic pieces are one of a kind. Unless otherwise stated, you will receive the exact piece shown in the listing photos.
