"QR Code" Fluorite with Petal Calcite, Guizhou, China
Description
This large statement piece shows striking "QR code" fluorite; cubic fluorite crystals with vivid purple edges surrounding paler, geometrically patterned faces, the grid-like internal structure giving each cube that distinctive pixelated, code-like appearance the variety is named for. The fluorite cluster is generously dressed in cream-to-tan petal calcite, forming dense, bladed rosettes across much of the surface and adding wonderful textural contrast against the sharp, angular fluorite beneath. The fluorite is included with Guizhou's version of porcelain. Mounted on an included acrylic display base, this is a substantial, gallery-worthy piece with excellent colour and formation throughout.
"QR code" fluorite is a distinctive and highly sought-after variety from the Qinglong Mine (also known as the Dachang Mine) in Qinglong County, Guizhou, China. It's locality already well known among collectors for producing unusual and visually striking mineral formations. The combination of this fluorite with petal calcite makes for a particularly dynamic, textural specimen.
