Description
This tall wheel-thrown stoneware vase is wrapped in playful sgraffito imagery of frogs, lily pads, reeds, and cattails, creating the feeling of a small wetland ecosystem brought to life in clay. The frogs appear mid-leap and resting among the vegetation, scattered naturally across the surface as though moving through their pond habitat.
Soft washes of underglaze were applied to the clay body in a manner similar to watercolour on paper. The colours flow and blend across the surface, forming a gentle backdrop that echoes the shifting tones of water and plant life. Raised sgraffito elements give the frogs and lily pads dimension, while the glaze settles lightly across the carved details.
