Description

A vivid uvarovite garnet specimen from the Saranovskii Mine in Perm Krai, Russia, the type locality where this rare chrome garnet was first discovered in 1832, and still the source of the world's finest examples. A glittering field of emerald-green garnet crystals spreads across the rock face, set against soft pink kämmererite, a chromium-bearing chlorite that gives the piece its unusual rose-toned matrix. The crystals here are notably larger than the fine druse typical of the locality, giving each garnet a distinct, readable sparkle. Green on pink is a colour combination few minerals can offer.

Uvarovite is the rarest of the major garnets. The only one that is consistently green, coloured by chromium rather than iron. At Sarany, it forms in fractures cutting through chromite ore, where chromium-rich fluids crystallized garnet in sparkling seams along the walls, with kämmererite forming from the same chromium-rich environment. Unlike other garnets, uvarovite almost never grows large enough to facet, so it is prized precisely in this natural druzy form.

Uvarovite is associated with abundance, prosperity, and heart-centered calm. As a green garnet aligned with the heart chakra, it is often chosen to encourage contentment and quiet confidence; a piece that reads as luxurious without excess.

You will receive the exact specimen photographed.

Note

All crystals and ceramic works offered by Atelier Lithic are inherently unique. Variations in size, colour, surface texture, and form are natural and should be expected.

Crystals are natural materials formed in the earth and may include surface irregularities such as natural fissures, internal veils, growth marks, contact points from where the crystal was attached to the host rock, or areas where the specimen was mined or extracted. These features are part of the crystal’s natural formation and are not considered defects. Defects are disclosed within the item description.

For crystals:

  • When a listing includes numbered options (for example, 001, 002, etc.), each number corresponds to a specific crystal shown in the photos. Selecting a number means you will receive that exact crystal.
  • When a crystal is shown as a group or range and sold as a quantity of one without numbered options, the images represent examples of what is available. You will receive one crystal, selected from the group, with natural variation.

For ceramics:

  • All ceramic pieces are one of a kind. Unless otherwise stated, you will receive the exact piece shown in the listing photos.
